Sample Idiom
Let the Cat Out of the Bag
Sentence
She let the cat out of the bag when she told everyone about the surprise birthday
party for Andre.
Explanation
To give away a secret
Origin
This idiom is said to have originated from England centuries ago. At the market place,
when you bought an expensive piglet meat, some dishonest merchant would replace it
with a worthless cat meat and put in the bag instead. You might not find out until
you got home and let the cat out of the bag.
